Joint Primary Health Care and Nature Conservation in Bangladeshi Community
:
Scouts as young and promising citizens contribute towards solving the health and nutritional issues. Scouts and Rovers of Bangladesh and Japan worked in creating awareness among the community people on different components of PHC and improve their knowledge and practice on health, sanitation, nutrition, environment and related issues in 30 Bangladeshi Villages.
The knowledge relating to infant feeding, health and nutrition of pregnant mother, diarrhea management, vitamin-A and iodine intake showed a significant improvement. The scout intervention registered significant progress in improving sanitation and hygienic practice, child feeding practice except exclusive breastfeeding and healthy practices and care for pregnant mother.

Achievements and Learning:

Proper knowledge about infant feeding has registered a significant increase except exclusive breast-feeding. Knowledge about exclusive breast-feeding has not increased significantly.

Proper knowledge about health and nutrition of pregnant mother has increased to a significant level.

Knowledge about diarrhea management and benefit of taking Vitamin-A and iodized salt among the respondents increased to a significant level.

The project activities have registered significant progress in improving sanitation and hygiene practices.

The child feeding practices in the project villages have made significant progress except exclusive breast-feeding. The practice of exclusive breast-feeding has remained unchanged.

The healthy practices and care for pregnant mother in the project villages have made significant progress

The knowledge and practice relating to tree plantation and nature conservation have increased. But knowledge and practice about economy wood stoves/ biogas plant for saving fuel wood have remained unchanged.

Lessons Learned:
- The Japanese rovers and Bangladeshi scouts, rovers and non-scout students have made a significant and real difference in promoting community health and environment in the project villages.
- The participant rovers and scouts have got the opportunity to understand the problem which the community people are facing and to work to solve the problems
- The scouts, rovers and non-scout students have developed their knowledge and skills and working with the community people they have improved their interpersonal skills.
