Bangladesh emerged as a newly independent nation in 1971 after a historic war for liberation. The erstwhile East Pakistan Boy Scout Association was reconstituted in 1972 as Bangladesh Boy Scout Samity vide President order no. 111/72. It received the recognition of the World Organization of the Scout Movement as a member in 1974 .Bangladesh Scouts is the 105th Member of WOSM. The nomenclature of ``Bangladesh Boy Scout Samity'' has been amended as Bangladesh Scouts in 1978.
At the time of reconstitution, Bangladesh Scouts inherited a total of 56,326 Scout populations. To achieve a substantial growth, Bangladesh Scouts, in 1978, embarked on a special programme setting its goal of expansion from 83,000 to 500,000. Consequently, extensive training courses were conducted at random throughout the country. As a result, Bangladesh Scouts achieved its targeted membership of 500,000 in 1995 ahead of the stipulated time.
Since then its membership has been growing steadily. Bangladesh achieved a total number of 9,48, 219 scouts in 2005. Bangladesh Scouts enrolled almost two hundred thousand girls in all three sections after introducing girls in Scouting.
